Grading
Better Business Based on Figures
The dimensions are numerical values used to develop patterns. They help you to increase your productivity, to automate the grading process, to increase the fitting quality and to better inform the buyers about the product size. With this in mind, Gemini embarked on redefining the good practices in using dimensions throughout the garment lifecycle, from development to interacting with the consumer.
The dimensions inventory,
which is a very stable, standardized and widely accepted list of names and procedures to retrieve each dimension from the body; this part is an embedded, fixed feature of the application:

The actual numerical values of the dimensions,
which are particular to each brand, country, market segment; this part is flexible and customizable for each user

WITH THIS STRATEGIC SHIFT IN OUR APPROACH, WE ENABLE YOU:
- To bring clarity and consistency to your development process
- To reduce the returns by better fitting and sizing and by better informing the consumer
- To automate pattern making and grading and reduce dependency on human operators
GEMINI BREAKTHROUGH APPROACH FOR HANDLING THE DIMENSIONS IS BASED ON:
- A comprehensive set of standardized body dimensions, including clear definition of what they represent and how they are retrieved from the body
- Customizable additional body dimensions upon users’ needs
- The capacity to handle values for complex sizing systems including GRADE, DROP, SPEC, EXTRA
- The capacity to publish the dimensions or their derivative values for the final buyer of the product

Measure & Check Tools
The Perfect Tool for Perfect Fitting
Grading is not necessarily the most creative activity, but it is one of the key processes for high quality garment manufacturing. It represents the success factor for perfectly fitting all the sizes from your size chart. This is the reason why Gemini constantly invests in perfecting the grading tools and making them seamlessly integrate with the other features from the manufacturing process – upstream and downstream, such as the dimension manager or measurement and check tools. As a result, Creative STUDIO enables you to automate the workflow while improving the quality and the consistency of the final product.
IF YOU HAVE A BIG CONCERN ABOUT REDUCING THE RETURNS CAUSED BY BAD FITTING, THEN:
- Use the parametric construction grading to perfectly match each size.
- Connect and forget! Use the linked patterns and the connected grading to reduce mistakes that lead to mismatched sizes.
- The variety of human body sizes and shapes can lead to an impressive number of garment sizes and complex sizes systems, so you must cover them all if you want to proudly offer excellent product fitting to your customers. Gemini makes this task easy. Just use the possibility to breakdown your size chart in separate grading tables for sizes, conformations and special gradings.
- Improve your products’ fitting quality and the customers’ satisfaction by using the same set of dimension values both for grading and developing the product and for informing your clients about the products’ sizes and measurements.
DO YOU NEED TO REDUCE THE TIME TO MARKET FOR YOUR PRODUCTS?
- Save time with advanced features like connected grading and linked patterns, or other logical information such as symmetry axes or pattern quantities, that all allow you to re-use the work already done for the patterns previously graded.
- Use parametric grading so you can automatically calculate all the grading steps, for all the sizes. Grade your product in seconds, on any standard and for any distribution channel, by enabling automatic grading on a parametric constructed model.
IS ONBOARDING THE NEW EMPLOYEES OR PARTNERS CHALLENGING?
- Using parametric grading, each model embeds its grading formulas and rules, so any new contributor working with the model gains instant access to the technical know-how, being able to understand and continue with the development process.
- Enjoy the opportunity offered by Gemini, to save and share ready-to-use grading rules and size chart tables with included dimensions and their corresponding value for every size.
Measure & Check Tools

Fabric Matching
From the Pattern Maker to Everybody
One of the flagship features of Gemini just got better. We redefined years ago what it means to have measurements in an apparel CAD, by introducing dynamic measurements. The feature is still there, faster and more accurate, leveraged by an improved interface as well as numerous added functionalities. However, until now the only beneficiary has been the pattern maker. In line with our vision to provide tools for all the contributors to the product lifecycle, we now make measurements available for other roles, such as the size & fit specialist, QA engineer, merchandiser, and e-commerce publisher. Wherever you are on the flow, you have access to all the critical measurements executed by others on the product, and you can perform your own measurements.
It's all about quality
As a garmenting engineer, verifying that the parts match and the notches are in the right position is a critical step when it comes to ensuring a smooth launch in production and the quality of the final product. If this is your role, you can now rely on the advanced packing, marry and walking piece functions, which enable you not only to check if everything is okay, but also to take corrective measures by editing the pieces while you do the checking.
You can better inform the manufacturing teams about critical matching operations or dimension constraints by generating visual content while using checking and measurement tools and by including it into the TechPack. As a QA engineer, you can use Creative STUDIO to constantly check the quality during the development of the garment and to also create the content needed by other QA specialists during or at the end of the manufacturing process.
HAPPY CLIENTS MEANS BETTER SALES
When selling online, go beyond presenting just a generic size chart for the entire brand. You can describe each product individually and size by size.
Think about the customer’s experience when entering a fashion e-shop. If they are interested in buying a dress, there is no information in the standard size chart about the actual length of that dress, for each size. The standard chart only refers to the dimensions of the body for which the product was intended.
But using the new Gemini features for publishing the measurements made on the garment itself, or their derivative values, you can inform your online buyers about the exact length of the chosen dress. They now know exactly what to expect, they make an informed decision when buying, and there are fewer risks of returns based on bad fitting or disappointment.
Fabric Matching
It’s Visual, Easy and Fast
Assigning repetitive motif fabrics and providing the placement rules to get the aesthetic alignments and symmetries on the garment, as required by the designer, has never been easy. Passing this information to the cutting room and applying these rules to get a good marker was even more challenging. Now it’s visual, and it’s simple, from design to cutting and beyond, with one gesture.

It’s Visual, Easy and Fast
Assigning repetitive motif fabrics and providing the placement rules to get the aesthetic alignments and symmetries on the garment, as required by the designer, has never been easy. Afterward, passing this information to the cutting room and applying these rules to get a good marker was even more challenging. Now it’s visual, and it’s simple, from design to cutting and beyond, with one single gesture.

WHAT YOU SEE IS WHAT YOU GET
They say an image is worth a thousand words.
For fabric matching, the basic principle is WYSIWYG – What You See Is What You Get, and it is not new. Applied to this hard-to-crack problem of garments with checked fabrics, means that you can solve the problem in seconds and leave no room for mistakes by simply placing the real fabrics on pieces and then checking the visual matching on the product’s 2D parts and on its 3D simulation. Gemini integrates and automates the workflow by translating the visual language of the designer into placement and position requirements needed by the pattern maker and finally into the logical rules and constraints requested by the marker maker.
Make no mistake: Creative STUDIO does not use some repetitive images to represent the fabrics. It uses real fabrics, digitized and stored in the Gemini Cloud library. A simple gesture of placing a digitized fabric on a piece triggers a set of automated events along the process, as the planning and nesting applications or the Cost & Procurement features automatically retrieve all the digital assets related to the model, to its raw materials and to its manufacturing plan.

AS SIMPLE AS IT GETS, FOR ALL THE CONTRIBUTORS
The simple and intuitive interface and visuals allow people with no technical skills, such as the designer, to create content related to fabric matching, directly usable in the nesting and cutting processes.

Smart Technology for Size, Style and Print Customization
For the past few years, Gemini has focused on removing the line between mass production and customized production in the fashion industry. Our innovative technology now allows you to design, cut and sew unique products in an almost identical way to ready-to-wear products. This means you can improve your bespoke business model, in terms of automation, efficiency and agility, thus achieving benefits similar to those of mass production manufacturers.
In the first step of developing the product, you create the base for size, style and print customization. Everything is done using fast and innovative tools, and you win in quality, speed and comfort. You include formulas and rules to allow for size customization, you avoid all the troubles of working with variants, and you automate digital printing personalization.
In the next steps of the flow, related to obtaining the custom patterns and manufacturing the product, whether the customization comes through Made-to-Measure, AutomART or Style Editor tools, it all happens in just a few clicks and with minimal human intervention. Our innovative technology is able to automate and integrate the entire process, linking the customer’s unique preferences directly to the manufacturing line.
FROM HEAVY WORK TO INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGY
Let’s take a look at the customization workflow, as provided by Gemini:
You create and develop the bespoke model. You choose what aspects of the garment can be personalized, from size to artwork and to style elements.
MTM Parametric tools allow you to provide a perfect fitting quality for size customization, as the model file includes formulas and rules to recreate the piece geometries based on the client’s input dimensions, while also maintaining technical accuracy.

You add graphical content for optional decorations and use AutomART innovative tools to allow artwork adjustments. Instead of storing hundreds of pre-defined variants, you include in the model file a grid of logical rules that automate the style personalization: a list of questions (intended for the customer, in order to reflect the variable elements of the product), a list of possible answers (alternatives that the customer can choose from, to express their options) and the derived actions (modifications applied to the model, depending on the answers). Once familiarized with the solution, you can optimize your work and speed up the process even more, when preparing new products to allow for style variations. Now, your customizable digital product contains them all – all the CAD elements needed for automatic personalization.

Using Gemini Cloud On-Demand solution, you publish the model on POS terminals or e-commerce platforms, and all these customization functionalities are automatically retrieved as well, which fuel the dialogue with the client.
During the online interaction for tailoring and purchasing the product, the customer expresses their options related to style, measurements and/or decorations, then launches the order.
Gemini apps instantly process the order and organize the entire logistic and manufacturing operations needed to produce and deliver the customized garment. The pattern adjustments by shopper’s input, bundling the orders for highest production efficiency, launching the cutting room orders and creating the markers for cut and print files are completely automated flows.

Efficiency, Quality and Speed through Automated Workflows
They say you always have one single chance to make a good first impression. This applies to fashion too, when selling online – which is a must, today. As a brand or retailer, you want your products to cause instant joy, powerful desire and irresistible buying impulse. You act on emotion, not on necessity. You want to be seen and to be memorable. And all these rely, in the first few seconds, on your products’ appearance. In the busiest online environment ever, facing the pickiest consumers ever, how do you make the difference and put your products in the best light?
And how do you further enhance the shopping experience and get the purchase? When passing from emotion to pragmatic interest, the customer needs accurate and complete information, leading to the conclusion that the product fully meets their expectations. They also need fast and smooth online interaction until the buying decision is made, otherwise the risk of losing interest and dropping out is huge.
Now, this is a challenge! At Gemini, we put all the efforts into providing you with the perfect tools to publish your products online through an automated, fast and error-free process, while providing all the information needed by the customer, at the highest quality standards.

A STREAMLINED WORKFLOW, FROM 2D TO CONSUMER
As already seen before, everything starts with the digital product. The model file now embeds not only the data intended for the manufacturing processes, but everything related to online publishing and the go-to-market stages, allowing the garment to be presented, described, visualized, customized and afterwards produced.
Everything you do on the 2D patterns and during product development will automatically fuel the publishing functions and tools, being intended to enhance the customer shopping experience on the e-shop or in the Point of Sales (POS). You need only one click to publish the model in the Gemini Cloud, with all its images, information, descriptions and options. Thanks to the permanent cloud connection to the development environment, every change made on the 2D model is automatically retrieved and displayed in the published version. One more mouse click, and the product is further published online on an e-commerce platform, enabling the perfect interactive shopping experience for your customers. Let’s go back and discover the main information of interest for the customer, that are managed and prepared in the model file, automatically fueling the publishing process:
- The name and description of the product, as well as images of the key details.
- The size & fit information – are key data when it comes to informing the client and reducing return rates caused by bad fitting. Gemini advanced features allow you to publish the ready-to-wear garments with their exact measurements made on the pieces and the irrelated body dimensions. For size customization, based on parametric technology, editable measurements and dimensions are automatically made available for the client to input their data. For better understanding the body dimensions and collecting accurate data from customers, the designer can add useful descriptions or links to video content, presenting how a dimension should be retrieved from a body.

- The style options for a garment – are created in the model using Style Editor functions, then made available for the customer through a set of questions and various answers, meant to present the possibilities and choices, to collect the client’s preferences and to manage the final bespoke orders.
- The digital decoration options for a garment – are created in the model using AutomART innovative solution, then a rich visual content can be automatically published and displayed on the e-shop. The customer can personalize their garment, choosing the artwork, scaling, and placing it as desired.
- The product’s images and visual details, as they were prepared on the model’s file and documentation, are automatically retrieved and are displayed on the e-shop, allowing the customer to inspect every detail of the garment and see the style options, where the case.
NEW FREEDOM, NEW POWER, AMAZING POSSIBILITIES
Your team now faces new opportunities and also new tasks: to manage, not only the product itself, but also the go-to-market stages in its lifecycle, until meeting the customer and enhancing the online purchase. The nice part of the new reality, where Gemini comes up with this game changing solution, is that you do not need programmers or web designers for online publishing – the process is fully automated. No time, no effort, no mistakes, no omissions and no headaches. You just need to prepare everything in the digital product, knowing for sure that all the information, digital assets, formulas, and rules will be afterwards retrieved to fuel the sale process.
Moreover, you are in full control of your publishing strategy – Gemini puts the right tools in the right hands, allowing you to set up all the details and components to present the products, conduct a smooth and properly informed customer online interaction and boost sales.

Everything Needed for the Manufacturing Stages
There are several denominations for one very important job in an apparel company: garmenting engineer, sewing & finishing planner, garment technologist, product developer, production operator and so on. Whatever it is called, the contribution of this person is as critical as the pattern making in order to achieve the vision of the designer and the quality of the brand, while following sourcing and manufacturing constraints as well as cost targets.
Gemini’s disruptive approach is Integrate pattern making with garmenting technology, in one single app.
If you are the one in charge of defining every detail in the manufacturing of a product, your skills will be leveraged by working directly in the live product where you can build a step-by-step product manufacturing flowchart.
DIVE DEEP INTO TECHNICAL DETAILS
- Seams, hems, stitches
- Elastics and trimmings
- Zippers
- Buttons, rivets, buttonholes
- Pleats & darts folding, press lines and much, much more
All these technical operations and components are readily available on the Gemini Cloud platform – just choose the ones serving your purpose.
LIVE CONNECTION WITH PATTERNS
If you apply a zipper on a section, the app will automatically create a list of necessary zipper lengths for each size in the model. If the pattern maker creates a change in the model, all the zippers will be automatically updated.
Is seam allowance the job of the pattern maker? No, it is your job, but now it is also fully automated. Every time you select a certain type of seam to join two parts, or when you decide the type of hem and its parameters, the seam allowance will be automatically calculated.
ONE ACTION, MULTIPLE EFFECTS
Everything you do on 2D patterns will automatically impact the 3D simulation, the tech pack and the cost calculator: for instance, if you change a zipper or a seam type, if you decide to press the pleats or leave them natural and so on.

COMMUNICATE EASILY AND ACCURATELY
Everything you do will fuel the tech pack of the product, where the people on the manufacturing floor will find all the needed and relevant information.
All the details about the sewing machines or other equipment, including settings, accessories and consumables are instantly available for the production, costing and procurement teams.

The Perfect Product Traceability Tool
In fashion and apparel, as well as in upholstery and furniture, a new design is subject to many changes while in the development stage, and these changes are generated by many contributors. Multiple design options and also various technical solutions can be explored and tested, until choosing the final variants of the product. The designer, the pattern maker, the garment technologist, the cost specialist and other stakeholders can be involved in making this decision, based on analyzing all the options and selecting what to keep and what to give up.
PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT IS NOT A LINEAR PROCESS

Therefore, product development is a tree-model process. It includes key stages from where a new variant branch is launched, without knowing for sure if that idea is finally implemented or not. The product traceability thus becomes a fundamental element in the fashion industry, and it must provide transparency – to store & see all the changes, and flexibility – to roll back the product design to any valid point of interest.
How did you proceed until now to solve this need? Most probably, you stored versions of the model file at different moments, in different development stages. And yes, it could work, but not in an effective way. You can lose information, you can mix things up, you cannot properly manage the way people access and modify the files.
GEMINI MODEL HISTORY – THE INTERACTIVE MAP OF PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT
Gemini Model History is the perfect tool that allows you to “travel” freely on the development routes of your products, as the model file now includes them all:
- THE MODEL BRANCHES – development paths based on various creative and technical options; you can explore new ideas, you can afford to be wrong, you can build on the talent of your team;
- THE MODEL RESTORE POINTS – key stages of each branch of the product development process where you can go back whenever you need, either to confirm the variant and launch the production or to initiate another design approach;
- THE PEOPLE WHO CONTRIBUTE TO THE MODEL DEVELOPMENT AND THEIR WORK – multiple contributors can simultaneously work and create branches on the model; storing their work, you can know who did what and when. This allows you to analyze their contribution from a professional point of view, related to creative and technical aspects. Also, from an organizational point of view, which fuels the Track & Trace feature, this allows you to better manage your priorities and deadlines.
BE FREE, SAVE TIME, BOOST QUALITY
Model History is your chance to creative freedom, knowing that you can unleash your imagination, without any risk of losing the work previously done on a model or compromising its quality. At the same time, this can lead to seizing commercial and business opportunities, as new variants of a garment could address different market segments or customers’ profiles.
The interactive map of the product development is always there, automatically built in real-time, as the product itself evolves. No more headaches saving and storing the variants all along the process, no more mistakes and lost data. You can overview the entire process, evaluate the contributions of the entire team and easily, freely “travel” among the variants of your product, choosing only the ones that best suit your brand and your business standards.
